The roads of Sweden's capital city are judged to be the safest in the world, with just a handful of accidents each year.
But that proud statistic looked likely to take a knock yesterday when Stockholm hosted the Red Bull Soapbox race.
No doubt inspired by the Wacky Racers cartoon, dozens of carting fans gave their imaginatively-designed vehicles a road test in the Soedermalm district of the city .
Going for a spin: This team weren't quite able to pull off a tight turn on this notoriously difficult stretch of the circuit
Get off your soapbox: The co-driver of this Viking cart appears to be thrown from his vehicle
Rocket man: But this competitor appears to be going nowhere fast
Monkey business: to Criticising this gorilla's driving is not recommended
Pedestrians had to have their wits about them as the aerodynamically challenged, pedal-powered soapboxes hurtled across the tarmac.
It is not known if the bizarre race resulted in any injuries to the modern-day Dick Dastardlys and Penelope Pitstops.
Driven around the bend: This Jamaica-inspired cart demonstrated some good handling
Heading for red square:The wheels on this wagon look like they could collapse at any moment
But one thing is for certain, as these pictures show - Jenson Button and his Formular One colleagues won't be nervously looking in their rear view mirrors worried at the competition.
Inspired: Perhaps Dick Dastardly's sidekick Muttley was the inspiration behind this vehicle
No pushover: This competitor needed a helping hand from his co-driver
Slippery conditions: This octopus was able to make its way around the course
