Police seize alligator at off-licence
Customers at a New York off-licence got quite a shock when police were called to seize a pet alligator.
The owner of the Long Island store said he was looking after it for two workers and thought it was a monitor lizard, reports The Metro.
The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the illegally kept alligator was removed from Alpine Wines and Liquors.
The store's owner, Nancy Corcione, said: "I didn't think it was illegal. We had no clue."
The 3ft creature has been sent to a sanctuary, while two employees of the store have been issued with tickets for illegally possessing an animal.
