The Surprise Sprout Whopper is only available in the UK.Burger King is rolling out a new flavor sensation for the holidays: Brussels sprouts.
This fiber-friendlier version of the Whopper is similar to the original but contains the green vegetable and Emmental cheese.
Sadly – or happily for the many who loathe brussel sprouts – the Surprise Sprout Whopper is only available in the UK until the end of the day Friday.
On Facebook, many believed the Surprise Sprout Whopper to be a joke. Others were appalled.
"Well done, you've taken the nations least liked vegitable [sic], gonna fry it, and sell it for an extortionate [sic] price, congratulations bk. You never cease to amaze me. Ultimate fail 2010," a disgusted FB poster wrote.
So far, that does not seem to be the case. The company posted a response to its revolted customers, pleading with them to give sprouts a chance.
"Hi BKers – sorry to hear some of you weren't too keen on the idea of the Sprout Surprise Whopper yesterday, but we're confident that The King can make even Brussels Sprouts taste good!"
Customer seems dubious, to say the least, judging by their replies.
Still, one has to admire Burger King's love of a vegetable that few claim to like.
"We believe that taste is king, and as such, we wanted to create a recipe that would challenge existing sprout perceptions, and genuinely make sprouts a flavor to be reckoned with," Paul Rowland, culinary development manager at Burger King UK told Marketing Magazine.
