Overvecht station in Utrecht installs kids' slide to help busy passengers
Dutch train passengers using Overvecht railway station can expect a quicker than normal journey after having a 'transfer accelerator' installed - otherwise known as a big children's slide.
What looks like a children's playground slide has been installed at Overvecht railway station in the Netherlands
Grown men have been spotted smiling gleefully as they travel down it and mature women can be seen laughing like school girls as they descend.
The added feature is probably more suited to a water park or a kid’s playground but that hasn’t stopped Utrecht-based firm HIK Ontwerpers from adding it to the renovation of the Overvecht railway station.
The designers explained the slide is a gift to the rail commuters and hope it will create a playful urban area that could generate positive energy in a disadvantaged neighborhood.
It is yet to be seen if a queue will form during rush hour, which - ironically enough - would mean the journey may take longer.
And let’s hope they also have disability access and this isn't a slightly misguided attempt to kill two birds with one stone.
