We've all be warned about the dangers of texting and driving but for one woman she found, to her peril, that texting and shopping is also not a good idea.
A shopping mall security surveillance video has shown how a woman became so distracted by her cell phone that she fell head first into a fountain, getting completely drenched.
The unknown woman was walking in a straight line while texting on her phone, oblivious to what was around her - or directly in front of her.
Watch out: A distracted shopper became so preoccupied with her cell phone that she went head first into a water fountain at the mall
Texting and walking: The security surveillance video captured the embarassed woman getting drenched from head to toe
The inevitable happens when her inattentiveness leads to her falling into the icy fountain, which is unlikely to have been heated.
The woman then immediately steps back out of the fountain and makes a hasty exit.
It will probably not be only her clothes that need to be dried out, her phone that she was so preoccupied with would have been sodden too and likely had to be replaced.
The video was posted with commentary by what is believed to be laughing mall employees who watched the video over and over.
They then shared it with other colleagues before uploading it to YouTube for others to laugh at.
Drenched: The woman immediately got up from the icy pool and scurried out of the fountain
Phone fall: It won't only be her clothes that need to be dried out - her phone is likely to have been ruined from the dip in the pool
After watching the woman's embarassing fall, a worker is captured saying: 'And then she just awkwardly walks away'.
'Oh my God! Play it back, play it back', one viewer said, wanting to see the hilarious footage again.
The worker then shows the woman's fall from a different angle which brings more hoots of laughter.
One of the housekeeping staffers apprently walked up to the lady to see if she was hurt.
The security guard said: 'Paedro asked her if she is alright and she said, "Yes - I'm just a little wet."'
Texting while driving has been banned in many states and the risks of distractedly tapping on a cell phone while behind the wheel are obvious.
But pedestrians injuring themselves while walking has also become a worrying trend.
May it be a crack in the sidewalk, a stop sign pole, a fellow pedestrian or even a parked car, people's obsession with their cell phones are landing them with an increasing number of injuries.
